Vol. 464 No. 1

Written Answers. - Report on People with Disabilities.

Mary Wallace

Question:

71 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform when he will announce the date for the publication of the report of the Commission on the Status of People with Disabilities; and if he will ensure that sufficient advance notice of the launch is given to persons not involved in the preparation of the report who might wish to attend. [7690/96]

I am advised that the draft Report of the Commission on the Status of People with Disabilities will be completed shortly and that the commission will submit it to me thereafter, when it has had the opportunity to consider it.

It is a matter for the commission to decide who it will invite to the launch of its report. I understand, however, that it is its intention that representatives of the people who attended its listening meetings during the consultative phase of its work would be amongst the invitees. With regard to the provision of advance notice of the launch of the commission's report, I will apprise the commission of the Deputy's concerns in the matter.
