140 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the Government's position on the use of growth promoting hormones in beef production; and its policy on the importation of hormone produced beef into the EU. [7905/96]

I fully support the European Union ban on the use of growth promoting hormones in beef production and see no reason to modify this ban either in respect of indigenous or imported beef.
