Robert Molloy

Question:

89 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for the Environment if the Government will, at the forthcoming meeting of the Commission on Sustainable Development in April and May 1996, fully support the efforts of the UN Environment Programme to draw up a global, legally-binding, treaty to ban the most dangerous identified persistent organic pollutants; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Question:

93 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for the Environment if the Government will be drawing up a national plan of action which will, amongst other measures, ban this country's use of the most dangerous identified persistent organic pollutants and seek to phase out the disposal of raw sewage and industrial waste in rivers and oceans in view of the Government's adoption of the United Nations Environmental Programme of Action on land-based sources of marine pollution; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7937/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 89 and 93 together.

The position on these issues is as set out in the reply to Questions Nos. 170, 171, 189 and 190 of 26 March 1996.
