Vol. 464 No. 4

Written Answers. - Remedial Teacher Posts.

Noel Davern

Question:

83 Mr. Davern asked the Minister for Education if she will appoint a remedial teacher to Ballyneale national school on a shared basis with Grangemockler and Newtown Upper national schools, County Tipperary in view of the special needs at Ballyneale national school; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [8266/96]

Patrick J. Morley

Question:

94 Mr. Morley asked the Minister for Education the number of schools in County Mayo that have applied for remedial teachers and are awaiting approval; and when the appointment of these teachers will be sanctioned. [8351/96]

I propose to take Question Nos. 83 and 94 together.

I am not in a position at present to make remedial teacher posts available to primary schools.

I will continue to review needs in this area and consider how best these needs can be addressed within available resources. The needs of all schools, including the schools referred to by the Deputies, will be considered within this context.

Sixty four ordinary national schools in County Mayo that do not at present benefit from a remedial teaching service have applied for a remedial teaching service.
