Vol. 464 No. 5

Written Answers. - Accident and Emergency Facility.

Noel Treacy

Question:

64 Mr. N. Treacy asked the Minister for Health if he will sanction public patient access at a location (details supplied) in County Galway; if his attention has been drawn to the importance of such a facility; the date on which sanction will be given; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8429/96]

, Limerick East): As part of its approach to tackling the accident and emergency situation at University College Hospital, Galway, the Western Health Board has explored the possibility of utilising the Bon Secours Hospital, Tuam as a step down facility as and when required.

I have asked the board to address a number of issues as part of a comprehensive approach to resolving the accident and emergency difficulties. The board's response is not yet to hand but I expect it to be available in the immediate future. The proposal regarding the use of beds at the Bon Secours Hospital will be considered in the context of the board's overall response to my request.
