64 Mr. N. ,Limerick East): As part of its approach to tackling the accident and emergency situation at University College Hospital, Galway, the Western Health Board has explored the possibility of utilising the Bon Secours Hospital, Tuam as a step down facility as and when required.

I have asked the board to address a number of issues as part of a comprehensive approach to resolving the accident and emergency difficulties. The board's response is not yet to hand but I expect it to be available in the immediate future. The proposal regarding the use of beds at the Bon Secours Hospital will be considered in the context of the board's overall response to my request.
