Vol. 464 No. 6

Written Answers. - Coroners Act.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

155 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Justice the current status of the interdepartmental discussions between her Department and the Departments of the Environment and Health in respect of the Coroners Act; whether these discussions have been completed; if not, when she will publish the report of their deliberations; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [8506/96]

I can confirm to the Deputy that my Department has been engaged in discussions with the Department of the Environment in relation to updating the Corners Act, 1962 (Fees and Expenses) Regulations, 1990. These discussions have also involved the Department of Finance. I understand that agreement has been reached with all parties and I hope to be in a position to sign the necessary ministerial order shortly.

My Department is also discussing with the Department of Health the question of access to facilities required by the coroners in certain health board areas.
