Written Answers. - Student Summer Jobs Scheme.

Liam Lawlor

Question:

172 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will reverse his decision to withdraw the extra £200 payable under the students summer jobs scheme to students whose parents are solely reliant on State benefit as a source of income; and if he will reinstate the payment for issue in October 1996 under the 1996 scheme. [9022/96]

Mary Coughlan

Question:

179 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason he did not increase the student summer jobs scheme allowance in 1996; if he will now reconsider his decision to disallow the additional allowance of £200 which was paid in 1995 to students whose parents were solely relying on State benefit as a source of income; his views on whether the removal of this allowance will cause additional hardship on families; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9272/96]

It is proposed to take Questions Nos. 172 and 179 together.

I refer the Deputies to my reply to Questions Nos. 171, 183, 185, 186 and 187 on Tuesday, 30 April 1996.
