Question:

113 Mr. Hughes asked the Minister for the Environment if he will furnish Deputy Seamus Hughes with the extract contained in a report promised in a reply to a parliamentary question on 23 April 1996 as a matter of urgency. [9168/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 110, 111 and 113 together.

I have approved Mayo County Council's proposal to construct a large diameter watermain and associated pumping stations and break pressure tank at an estimated cost of £2.25 million. The council is, at present, drawing up detailed contract documents in respect of these works; these documents must, in turn, be submitted for my Department's approval. Thereafter, it will be necessary to seek my Department's approval in respect of the council's proposals for the carrying out of the works whether by way of contract or direct labour. Submissions from the council for these necessary approvals will be dealt with urgently.

On completion of the Castlebar-Westport link, and the proposed break pressure tank at Sheeaune, the resultant dual supply will obviate the need for a substantial increase in water storage capacity at this stage.

The extract from the report referred to has been forwarded to the Deputy.
