John Browne

Question:

16 Mr. Browne (Wexford) asked the Minister for the Environment the amount to be allocated in respect of grants for conservation projects in each of the years up to 1999 in view of his statement of 16 April 1996 in respect of this matter. [9321/96]

Michael P. Kitt

Question:

34 Mr. M. Kitt asked the Minister for the Environment the centres throughout the country for urban and village improvement measures; the centres where landmark buildings will be restored and rehabilitated; the cost of each project; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6201/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 16 and 34 together.

Under the conservation measure of sub-programme 3 — urban and village renewal — of the Operational Programme for Local Urban and Rural Development, grants are available to local authorities, conservation and similar bodies for urban conservation projects. It is expected that funding of the following order will be available for this purpose: 1997 £800,000; 1998 £800,000; 1999 £800,000.

I am arranging to have tables giving updated details of the grants provided under measures 1, five major initiatives; measure 2, urban improvements; measure 3, village improvements, and measure 4, urban conservation, of the urban and village renewal sub-programme in 1994 and 1995, with details of the 1996 allocations, placed in the Oireachtas Library.
