Vol. 465 No. 2

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing Needs.

Eric J. Byrne

Question:

65 Mr. E. Byrne asked the Minister for the Environment the results of the assessment of local authority housing needs that was carried out on 29 March 1996 in respect of the number of homeless persons; the results of the survey on hostel accommodation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9293/96]

Returns, due by 30 April, showing the results of the assessments of local authority housing needs and the number of homeless people are still outstanding in most cases. Local authorities have again been asked to submit their returns as soon as possible. When all the returns have been received and collated, the results of the assessment will be published in the Department's Housing Statistics Bulletin, copies of which will be placed in the Oireachtas Library.

Returns by local authorities on the survey carried out by them of hostel accommodation for homeless people shows a total of 1,881 bed places available in these hostels.
