Vol. 465 No. 3

Written Answers. - Licence Fee for School Concerts.

Micheál Martin

Question:

136 Mr. Martin asked the Minister for Education the advice, if any, she will give to managers of primary schools regarding a request from the Irish Music Rights Organisation for the payment of a licence fee to enable schools to organise concerts with parents in attendance. [9774/96]

It is a matter for school management bodies to determine how they respond to any requests from IMRO for the payment of a licence fee to enable schools to organise concerts with parents in attendance.

My Department had been involved in exploratory discussions with the Irish Musical Rights Organisation and school management authorities in relation to this matter. I am aware that IMRO has also had discussions with management representatives. Any resolution of this matter must, of course, be in line with legislation in force in the area.
