Vol. 465 No. 3

Written Answers. - Aplort (Donegal) National School.

Mary Coughlan

Question:

154 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for Education the reason she has not responded to any representations made by the Board of Management with regard to the future of Aplort national school, Arranmore, County Donegal; the funding that will be made available in 1996 to have urgent repairs carried out to this school; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [9599/96]

My Department has been in touch with the board of management on a number of occasions over the past number of months about the possible amalgamation of the Aplort and Leabgarrow schools. I have also responded to representations about this issue.

One matter that has yet to be dealt with is a request to my Department from individual members of the board of management of Aplort national school for works to be carried out at the school. In this regard, a letter will be sent to the people concerned very shortly.

At this stage I am not in a position to give an undertaking to finance a works programme at the Aplort school in the current year.
