Vol. 465 No. 3

Written Answers. - Semesterisation of Examinations.

Mary Coughlan

Question:

165 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for Education her views on whether the semesterisation of examinations contributes to greater stress among students. [9667/96]

The semesterisation of examinations is essentially an internal management function of the educational institutions concerned.

The advice available to my Department indicates that semesterisation does not necessarily lead to extra exam time as these institutions often have some form of mid-year exam. The advantages are that students do not have to face as heavy a workload in summer and get earlier feedback on their performance than would otherwise be the case.
