Vol. 465 No. 3

Gaming and Lotteries (Amendment) Bill, 1996: First Stage.

I move:

That leave be granted to introduce a Bill entitled an Act to make provision for the removal of prize limits on lotteries and to amend the requirement to make returns to the Garda Síochána of winners of prizes in lotteries and for that purpose to amend the Gaming and Lotteries Act, 1956 and the National Lottery Act, 1986.

The purpose of the Bill is to level the playing pitch for the major Irish charities by removing the restrictions which have been placed on lotteries for charitable purposes.

Is the Bill opposed?

Question put and agreed to.

Since this is a Private Members' Bill, the Second Stage will, under Standing Orders, be taken in Private Members' time.

I move: "That the Bill be taken in Private Members' time".

Question put and agreed to.

Will the Government agree to take it in Government time since most Members of the House support the Bill?
