Vol. 465 No. 3

Written Answers. - Carer's Allowance Scheme.

Joe Walsh

Question:

203 Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for Social Welfare the current position regarding the carer's allowance scheme in view of his statement of 3 April 1996 in Dáil Éireann that a review of the allowance was being undertaken in conjunction with the Department of Health in the wider context of health care provision. [9640/96]

Consideration of the future development of my Department's carer's allowance, which is being examined in consultation with the Department of Health in the wider context of health care provision generally in the home, is ongoing. As I have already indicated to the House, any proposals arising from that process would have to be considered in the light of the resources available for improvements in that area and are not likely to emerge for some time.
