Vol. 465 No. 3

Written Answers. - Takeovers Supervision.

Batt O'Keeffe

Question:

213 Mr. B. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if he intends to designate authority to supervise all aspects of take-over bids. [9496/96]

Legislation is currently being drafted to provide for the regulation and supervision of the manner in which takeovers and certain other transactions as respects securities in public limited companies are conducted, to provide for the designation of a company to be known as the Irish Take-over Panel for those purposes and to define its functions to provide for related matters.

The relevant Bill is currently with the parliamentary draftsman and I will be seeking Government approval to publish the Bill when it has been cleared by the draftsman and the advisory side of the Attorney General's Office.
