Question:

103 Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for Health the plans, if any, he has to allow persons who were unemployed and who have recently taken up employment retain their medical card for three years. [9642/96]

Question:

105 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Health whether approval has issued in respect of the proposal that medical card holders in receipt of unemployment assistance be entitled to retain their medical card for a period of three years if they secure employment in the interim. [9466/96]

Limerick East): I propose taking Questions Nos. 103 and 105 together.

Arrangements for the provision of medical cards for the long-term unemployed following the budget announcement are being finalised and it is intended that these will be put in place in the near future.
