Vol. 465 No. 3

Written Answers. - RTÉ Television Reception.

Mary Coughlan

Question:

117 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht the proposals, if any, he has to address the poor quality of reception/signal for RTÉ television in Ardara, County Donegal. [9467/96]

The issue raised by the Deputy is the day-to-day responsibility of the RTÉ Authority and I have no statutory function in the matter.

In accordance with longstanding custom, I am prepared to furnish to the House information supplied by RTÉ in response to the question relating specifically to improvements in reception of the national broadcasting services. RTÉ informs me that it is aware of the poor quality television reception in the Ardara area of County Donegal and, as part of their on-going network plan for improving television reception in County Donegal, they will be surveying this area for a suitable site for a new transposer which it is hoped will be installed in 1997.
