Vol. 465 No. 3

Written Answers. - Planning Criteria for Housing Schemes.

Dermot Ahern

Question:

122 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for the Environment whether the same criteria apply in relation to the planning of local authority houses as apply to private housing in respect of open green spaces; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9508/96]

The criteria to be applied to the provision of public open space in housing schemes is a matter for each local authority in accordance with their development plan.

The Department's memorandum on the procedures to be followed and the standards to be applied in providing local authority dwellings specified that:

— the same general principles which govern the operation of the planning system in relation to private housing should be applied to the local authorities own housing development; and

— in the provision of open space in local authority housing, regard should be had to the requirements of the authority's development plan.
