Vol. 465 No. 4

Written Answers. - Medical Services for Prisoners.

Helen Keogh

Question:

79 Ms Keogh asked the Minister for Justice the progress, if any, that has been made in the negotiations with the Irish Medical Organisation in relation to medical services provided for prisoners in Mountjoy Jail; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [9782/96]

I would point out that while negotiations are ongoing between my Department and the Irish Medical Organisation they are not exclusively in respect of medical services being provided to prisoners at Mountjoy prison. While I accept that progress in the matter of negotiations has been slow, I am satisfied that every effort is being made to bring the negotiations, which are related to the terms and conditions of a proposed common contract, to an early and satisfactory conclusion.
