Vol. 465 No. 5

Written Answers. - Post-Graduate Teacher Training Course.

Mary O'Rourke

Question:

45 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Education when the course whereby degree holders can qualify to become primary teachers will commence; the number of places allocated; the duration of this course; the location of this course; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [10029/96]

The present post-graduate course to enable graduates to train as primary teachers began in January 1995 and will finish in June 1996. Provision was made for an intake of 180 students onto the course which was delivered by four colleges of education viz. St. Patrick's College, Drumcondra, Mary Immaculate College, Limerick, Froebel College, Sion Hill and St. Mary's College, Marino.

The arrangements for the present course were finalised following consultation with the colleges. My Department will be having consultations shortly with the colleges about the arrangements for the new course. I will announce further details when these consultations have taken place.
