Vol. 465 No. 6

Written Answers. - EU Funding.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

302 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the funding, if any, that will be made available by his Department under the EU peace initiative fund. [10459/96]

The EU Special Support Programme for Peace and Reconciliation contains a measure designed to assist actions of a cross-Border nature between public bodies in the areas of agriculture and forestry. Under this measure a cross-Border anti-farm source pollution initiative — the Erne catchment nutrient management scheme — is being put in place by my Department and the Department for Agriculture for Northern Ireland. I expect this scheme to be in operation in the near future. The public funding provision for the southern Border counties is £0.666 million up to 1997 with an equivalent provision for Northern Ireland. In addition other measures under the special support programme which are not the responsibility of my Department may assist agriculture related employment and training, tourism and small businesses.
