Vol. 465 No. 8

Written Answers. - Milk Quota System.

Ivor Callely

Question:

100 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry his views on the current milk quota system; the concerns, if any, he has in relation to this system; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10636/96]

The EU milk quota system, which was first introduced in 1984, continues to play a central role within the CAP market support system for milk and milk products. It is my concern to ensure that over time the quota system takes full account of developments both within the EU and on the world market and at the same time is sufficiently responsive to the particular needs of the Irish dairy sector.
