Vol. 466 No. 1

Written Answers. - Remedial Teacher Posts.

Albert Reynolds

Question:

142 Mr. Reynolds asked the Minister for Education if she will approve an early allocation of a remedial teacher in respect of schools (details supplied) in County Roscommon in order to ensure equality of treatment for pupils in these schools. [10816/96]

Brendan Smith

Question:

143 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the need to provide a remedial teaching service on a shared basis to five schools (details supplied) in counties Cavan and Monaghan; if she will immediately sanction the appointment of such remedial teacher to provide this much needed service; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [10827/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 142 and 143 together.

I am not in a position at present to make remedial teacher posts available to primary schools.

I will continue to review needs in this area and consider how best these needs can be addressed within available resources. The needs of all schools, including the schools referred to by the Deputies, will be considered within this context.
