Paul McGrath

Question:

152 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Education the level of capitation fee per pupil paid in respect of pupils attending second-level schools for each of the past ten years. [10987/96]

The level of capitation rate paid in respect of pupils attending voluntary secondary schools has increased from £140 in 1986 to £150 in 1990, £158 in 1994, £165 in 1995 and £177 in 1996. With effect from 1 January 1994 an additional per capita grant was introduced for schools which have been designated as disadvantaged. The rate of this additional grant has increased from £15 in 1994 to £30 in 1996.

The Deputy will be aware that different funding arrangements are applicable to schools in the vocational education committee sector and community and comprehensive schools. Corresponding increases were made in the budgets of these schools over the period in question.
