Vol. 466 No. 1

Written Answers. - Inter-Schools Facilities.

Micheál Martin

Question:

150 Mr. Martin asked the Minister for Education the plans, if any, she has to grant an inter-school indoor communal facility for two schools (details supplied). [10925/96]

The current position on the application for a school hall in the case referred to by the Deputy is that due to the current level of contractual commitments on the primary school building programme it is not possible to provide grant-aid for this facility at this time.

While I am anxious to extend the provision of general purposes facilities in primary schools, the pace at which this can be achieved will be dictated by the financial resources available and the priority must remain the provision of essential classroom accommodation.
