231 Mr. T. Kitt asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications when the annual accounts of the ESB will be published; the reason for the delay in its publication; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10781/96]

ESB's annual accounts are normally finalised promptly. On this occasion the annual report was delayed to allow full consideration to be given to the audit implications of the cost and competitiveness review.

The annual report is currently being finalised and, following endorsement by the board of ESB, will be submitted for Government approval.

The annual report will be published as soon as possible thereafter.
