Vol. 466 No. 3

Written Answers. - Diplomatic Relations with Haiti.

Ivor Callely

Question:

51 Mr. Callely asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs the plans, if any, he has to develop relations with Haiti; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11284/96]

Ireland is participating in the international effort to assist the people of Haiti through the European Union's contribution to the reconstruction of that country and to humanitarian aid operations.

There are no plans at the moment to establish diplomatic relations with Haiti. However, this will not affect the development of open relations and dialogue with the Government of President Préval or our continued efforts to help the people of Haiti.
