Vol. 466 No. 6

Written Answers. - Nurses' Pay.

John Browne

Question:

56 Mr. Browne (Wexford) asked the Minister for Health the reason retired nurses have been excluded from the recent proposals and discussions relating to pay and conditions; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12179/96]

Limerick East): Negotiations on nurses' pay have been conducted under the restructuring clause of the pay agreement incorporated in the Programme for Competitiveness and Work. The Deputy will appreciate that it would be premature to formulate final proposals in relation to pensioners in advance of agreement on pay and conditions for serving staff. There is no question, however, of the position of pensioners not being addressed in due course.
