Vol. 466 No. 6

Written Answers. - Enniscorthy (Wexford) Hospital.

John Browne

Question:

57 Mr. Browne (Wexford) asked the Minister for Health the reason the upgarding of the acute admission unit at St. Senan's Hospital in Enniscorthy, County Wexford, has stopped in spite of the fact that the funding for this project was sanctioned in 1994; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12181/96]

Limerick East): The South-Eastern Health Board is responsible for the delivery of health services, including mental health services, in its functional area which includes County Wexford. I am informed by the board that it recognises the need to upgrade the acute admission unit at Senan's Hospital, Enniscorthy pending the provision of an acute psychiatric unit at Wexford General Hospital. However, work on the upgrading had not commenced nor was capital funding sanctioned for it in 1994 by my Department. Plans for the upgrading have been drawn up by the board and an application for capital funding has been submitted to my Department. This is being considered in the context of the capital funding available for the development of mental health services nationally in 1996.
