169 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the reason a townland (details supplied) in County Kilkenny was not included in the newly extended disadvantaged areas as recently announced; and if he will have arrangements made to have an appeal accepted and the particular area included in view of the fact that it meets the criteria. I have had this matter investigated, and there are a number of reasons why the townland of Ballyfliugh was not proposed for designation as disadvantaged.
1. The townland exceeded the stocking density limit of 0.99 livestock units per forage hectare.
2. All of the townlands in the district electoral division of Mallardstown, in which this townland is located, together exceeded not only the stocking density limit but also the income limit of 80 per cent of national average income and the tillage limit of 7.8 per cent of agricultural land.
3. No part of the district electoral division was contiguous to any existing or proposed disadvantaged areas boundary.
