Vol. 466 No. 7

The Independent Referendum Commission Bill, 1996: First Stage.

I move:

That leave be granted to introduce a Bill entitled an Act to provide for the establishment of an independent Referendum Commission having the function of preparing and presenting to the public, information in an objective, impartial and informative manner thereby assisting the exercise of informed choice by the public in both constitutiuonal and ordinary referenda.

Is this Bill opposed?

Question put and agreed to.

Since this is a Private Members' Bill, the Second Stage may, under Standing Orders, be taken in Private Members' time.

I move: "That the Bill be taken in Private Members' time".
