Question:

16 Mr. Callely asked the Taoiseach the total unemployment figures for each of the years 1994 to 1995; the comparative figures for each of the years 1974 to 1975; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12083/96]

The labour force survey estimate of the number unemployed, using the principal economic status classification, was 218,000 in April 1994 and 190,000 in 1995.

Comparable figures for 1974 and 1975 were 62,000 and 85,000 respectively.
