Vol. 466 No. 7

Written Answers. - Classification of Exports.

Dan Wallace

Question:

17 Mr. D. Wallace asked the Taoiseach the percentage of total exports that are due to indigenous companies for each member state of the EU. [12194/96]

A classification of exporters according to whether they are indigenous or foreign-owned is not available. However, the CSO's annual Census of Industrial Production provides information on the exports of indigenous manufacturing companies. In the 1992 Census 27 per cent of the value of manufactured exports were accounted for by indigenous companies. The classification by nationality is determined by the nationality of the owners of 50 per cent or more of the share capital. Corresponding data from the 1993 Census should be available shortly.

Corresponding data for other EU member states are not available from EUROSTAT, the Statistical Office of the EU which co-ordinates statistical data from member states.
