Question:

184 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for the Environment whether he will sanction funding to Donegal County Council to acquire land currently available in Carndonagh, County Donegal, for the sewerage scheme being technically examined by his Department prior to this land being sold to another client. [12701/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 176 and 184 together. My Department has raised a number of queries on this proposed scheme with Donegal County Council and a response is awaited. However, having regard to the existing level of commitments under the water and sewerage programme, I cannot say when it may be possible to advance the scheme.

Local authorities do not need sanction from my Department for the advance acquisition of land that will be needed for public water or sewerage schemes. If and when a scheme is approved for funding, land acquisition costs may be charged to the Department's capital grant.
