Question:

112 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for the Environment the counties in which persons are ineligible for shared ownership when either spouse is in receipt of social welfare assistance. [13021/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 111 and 112 together.

The conditions governing the shared ownership scheme do not preclude persons in receipt of social welfare benefits from qualifying where they meet the requirements of the scheme. The determination of individual applications under the scheme is a matter for local authorities who administer the scheme in their areas. In assessing each application, the local authority must satisfy itself that the applicant complies with the terms and conditions of the scheme and can meet the financial commitments and outgoings.
