Vol. 467 No. 2

Written Answers. - Extradition Warrant.

Robert Molloy

Question:

84 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Justice the status of the second warrant by the British authorities to extradite a person (details supplied) on terrorist charges following the collapse of an earlier extradition application due to a defective warrant being presented to the court; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [12853/96]

I refer the Deputy to my statement to the House on 23 May 1996 wherein I indicated that the warrant in question has been endorsed and available for execution since 14 April as and when the need arises.

As I indicated in my statement, it is not the practice of Ministers for Justice to confirm or deny the existence of a warrant for the return of a person under Part III of the 1965 Act in the ordinary way. The detail provided in my statement of 23 May was given in the light of the exceptional circumstances that applied in this case.
