Vol. 467 No. 4

Written Answers. - Milk Quota.

Gerard Collins

Question:

290 Mr. Collins asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry his views on the case of a person (details supplied) in County Limerick who had a milk quota of 24,500 gallons in 1994 of which 23,000 gallons was leased, but this has been reduced to 3,150 gallons in 1996, which is a serious reduction in quota. [13288/96]

It is my intention to review the conditions relating to the operation of the second and third stages of the 1996-97 temporary leasing scheme. To this end I have asked the milk quota review group to consider all aspects of this scheme and to make recommendations on the further stages of this scheme. Such recommendations should ensure that those producers with the greatest needs will benefit most.

I will announce details of the operation of the second and third stages as soon as possible following the receipt of recommendations.
