Vol. 467 No. 6

Written Answers. - National Lottery Grants.

Joe Walsh

Question:

65 Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for Finance the total amount paid out in national lottery grants from 1 January 1996 to date by his Department in respect of each county or constituency in the country; and the specific project funded from each grant allocation. [13885/96]

The only national lottery moneys administered on the Finance Vote are payments to Gaeleagras na Seirbhíse Phoibli in respect of Irish language training. Gaeleagras do not fund projects or provide grants. The annual provision to Gaeleagras is expended on the recoupment of the cost of the salaries of the two full-time teachers on loan to Gaeleagras from County Dublin vocational education committee and the Department of Education respectively; and of the fees of the part-time teachers engaged in day courses, evening courses and the scholarship courses organised by Gaeleagras in the Gaeltacht areas of Kerry, Donegal and Galway.

The balance is spent on course related costs for example, hire of rooms, travel and subsistence, class material, periodicals, tapes, books, etc. and £500 towards the sponsorship of an annual award made to Glór na nGael to cover Duais na Seirbhíse Poibli. Approximately £28,000 has been spent on Gaeleagras so far this year.
