Vol. 467 No. 6

Written Answers. - Dormant Bank Accounts.

Mary O'Rourke

Question:

66 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Finance the names of the members of the committee that has been established in his Department to examine the issue of dormant bank accounts, the announcement of which was made by his Minister of State in a recent Adjournment debate; if he will give details of the remit of this committee; when the committee will issue its findings; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13909/96]

As the Minister of State indicated in response to a question by Deputy O'Rourke during the Adjournment debate, a study group within my Department, comprising officials who deal with banking issues, is examining the general issue of dormant accounts. To facilitate this examination they have been in contact with the industry, including representatives of the Irish Banker's Federation and the Building Societies' Association. When my officials have completed their examination of these issues they will report their findings to me.
