Vol. 467 No. 7

Written Answers. - Dundalk (Louth) Flooding.

Dermot Ahern

Question:

144 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the ongoing flooding problems experienced by residents of the Ardee Road area, Dundalk, County Louth, due to surface drainage problems; the plans, if any, his Department has in conjunction with the local urban council to rectify this problem; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14008/96]

The European Commission have approved Cohesion Fund assistance for the initial planning and investigation work in respect of the Dundalk main drainage scheme, which includes proposals which would relieve flooding in the Ardee Road area.

A special application, covering further planning and some construction, relating principally to the treatment works, has been submitted to the Commission and a decision is awaited. The specific proposals for flood relief at Ardee Road are under examination in my Department.
