185 Mr. D. Wallace asked the Minister for Education the total value of EU grant aid received by his Department during 1995; if she will give a breakdown of this figure by scheme; the total value of grants bestowed by her Department during 1995; the recipient of each such grant valued at £100,000 or greater; and the amount of each grant that is covered by an EU fund. [13992/96]
Aid from the European Social Fund is made available to my Department to assist in the provision of services across the first, second and third levels of education. These services are provided through schools, vocational educational committees, regional technical colleges, the Dublin Institute of Technology and the universities. The overall cost of the programmes is provided in the annual estimates for grants to these institutions.
In 1995 my Department received £114,886,681 in aid from the European Social Fund. A sum of £120,000 was also received in grants under the SOCRATES Programme. In addition to EU payments made to my Department, education sector agencies and institutions also received funding directly for projects under SOCRATES, LEON-ARDO, Youth for Europe and Community Initiatives.
A list of the programmes funded by my Department and the associated EU receipts in 1995 is set out in the attached table.
Receipts from the European Regional Development Fund in respect of the Department's capital programme are drawn down by the Department of Finance.
