Vol. 467 No. 7

Written Answers. - County Limerick School.

Desmond J. O'Malley

Question:

186 Mr. O'Malley asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the demand for the establishment of a post-primary school in the Castletroy/Annacotty/Lisagry area of County Limerick due to the substantial increase in population and in view of the fact that there are several large primary schools in the area and the pupils currently have to travel long distances to secondary schools in Limerick city and elsewhere. [14015/96]

Willie O'Dea

Question:

222 Mr. O'Dea asked the Minister for Education whether she has received representations concerning the siting of a secondary school in the Castletroy/Annacotty/Lisnagry area of County Limerick; her views on whether there is a compelling case for such a facility; whether she will respond positively to the request; and when a decision will be made in this regard. [14289/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 186 and 222 together.

An application for the establishment of a post-primary school in the Castletroy-Annacotty-Lisnagry area of County Limerick, dated 17 June 1996, has been received in my Department.

A detailed examination of the post-primary needs of the area will be carried out by my Department and a decision on the matter will be made on the completion of this examination.

I am not in a position to comment on the merits of the application until such time as this exercise has been carried out.
