Question:

280 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for Justice if work and training staffing structures have been formalised in Mountjoy Prison; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [14309/96]

An industrial staff structure involving dedicated staff was introduced in late 1995 at Mountjoy Prison for the workshop and kitchen areas. This structure provides employment for 188 prisoners per day. The activities involved and the number of places are as follows:

With the exception of the kitchens, which provide employment seven days a week, the other work and training activities operate on a Monday to Friday basis.
