279 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for Justice if a new disciplinary code for staff will be introduced in Mountjoy Prison in October 1996; if so, if she will give details of this code; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [14308/96]
A code of discipline for prison service staff was agreed with the staff side under the Conciliation and Arbitration Scheme in March 1996. It was agreed that the code would become effective from 1 October 1996 in order to allow for the staff to become familiar with the new procedures. I will be seeking Government approval shortly to the making of an enabling statutory instrument for the code and I will outline the principle features of the code at that stage.
