Vol. 467 No. 7

Written Answers. - Peat Fired Station.

Michael McDowell

Question:

19 Mr. M. McDowell asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the current position regarding the proposed peat powered station; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14163/96]

The current position in relation to the peat fired station is that my Department is in the process of recruiting an independent consultancy team to have responsibility for designing and conducting the proposed competition for the peat fired station.

The recruitment of the consultants is being undertaken in accordance with EU procurement rules. The assignment was advertised in March this year and expressions of interest were received in April. Having reviewed the responses it was decided to revise the conditions of eligibility with a view to attracting the widest possible field of applicants. The assignment was readvertised and the expressions of interest received on foot of that readvertisement are currently being evaluated.
