Vol. 467 No. 7

Written Answers. - EU Grant Aid.

Dan Wallace

Question:

439 Mr. D. Wallace asked the Minister for the Marine the total value of EU grant aid received by his Department during 1995; if he will give a breakdown of this figure by scheme; the total value of grants bestowed by his Department during 1995; the recipient of each such grant valued at £100,000 or greater; and the amount of each grant that is covered by an EU fund. [13993/96]

Most capital programmes within the ambit of the Marine Vote contain an element of EU funding as do some items of current expenditure.

The structure within which EU funds are spent is complex, involving a number of operational programmes, a number of EU funding sources, various financial mechanisms and the State agencies under the aegis of the Department.
The answer to the question is lengthy, therefore, and in the time available I am not in a position to verify the considerable amount of data involved. I propose, therefore, to supply it separately to the Deputy shortly. I would note, however, that EU funding is provided in respect of the following: sea fisheries including, fleet renewal, aquaculture, fish processing, marketing, training, support for structural change, fishery harbours, surveillance, ports and harbours, marine research and inland fisheries.
