Vol. 467 No. 7

Written Answers. - Dublin Transport Services.

Liz O'Donnell

Question:

28 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications whether further consideration will be given to the integration of the DART, Arrow, light rail transit, bus and rail services in Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14166/96]

The integration of services was a fundamental principle of the DTI recommendations which my Department, in cooperation with other agencies, is working to implement. Every opportunity to increase the level of service integration will be encouraged where it is feasible to do so, where resources permit and where it represents the best value for money in overall transportation terms.

While many of the integration issues are day-to-day operational matters for the companies involved, the strategic integration issues will be taken into account by my Department when considering any development proposals.

Included in the £17 million package of DART and suburban rail investments which I announced earlier this year were funding allocations for two important integration items — park and ride along the DART corridor and integrated public transport ticketing across all modes.
