Vol. 468 No. 2

Written Answers. - National Crime Figures.

Frances Fitzgerald

Question:

137 Ms F. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Justice the national crime figures as reported for the first quarter of 1996; the areas in which there is a decrease and the areas in which there is an increase in crime; and the types of crime in which there is an increase and the types in which there is a decrease. [14775/96]

It is not the practice for the Minister for Justice to comment in detail on provisional crime figures. Accordingly, all I propose to say in this case is that the provisional figures complied for the first five months of 1996 show that there has been a decrease in the overall number of indictable crimes recorded compared to the coresponding period last year.
