Vol. 468 No. 4

Written Answers. - Ulster Canal.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

285 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Arts. Culture and the Gaeltacht when the joint Northern Ireland full scale feasibility study on the restoration of the Ulster Canal will commence; when work is expected to be completed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15196/96]

A consultants' brief for the study in question is currently being finalised by the Waterways Service of my Department and their counterparts in Northern Ireland, the Watercourse Management Division of the Department of Agriculture. At this stage, however, I cannot be specific as to when tenders are likely to be invited from consultancies interested in undertaking it or when the work is likely to be undertaken.
